Our Story... in More Detail

We are Malvina and Ionuț Socol and here's the story about how we created Socolossal together.

Where it all Began

Right when we found out we were going to be parents we entered the research mode: getting info about pregnancy, birth, raising and educating our child.

But our favorite part was beginning the search for toys. We were surprised to find that the games and toys we wished for our little girl (creative, educative, esthetic, made from natural materials) were not as easy to find as we thought.

So we decided to make the games with which we'd like our little one to grow - unique, imaginative novelties that are also eco-friendly.

We realized other parents must be in the same search too. And we created Socolossal - the new site with remarkable toys and games, that are made in Romania, and are eco-friendly. We chose to begin our adventure with digital (printable) products for many different reasons, but first of all because they are instantly accessible to many people around the world.

The name of „Socolossal” is a word play between our family name „Socol” and „colossal”, combining them in „so colossal”! Meaning the way we hope our games will inspire children to grow up.

The Sun and Moon symbols merged in the logo represent joy, the light of inspiration, opposite forces working together, completing each other. It represent us, because (at least for the time being, in the beginning) we do everything ourselves, just the two of us.

Who We Really Are

I, Malvina, studied Graphics at the Fine Arts Highschool „Romulus Ladea” , and then at The University of Art and Design from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. I started working as a children book illustrator ever since high-school, in 2007. I am also passionate about other areas tangent to the artistic sphere: working with paper in a multitude of ways, calligraphy, and floral arrangements. I always knew that I want to create something to combine all my interests: illustration, design and paper objects.

And so I take care of all the creative parts for Socolossal, especially products with original illustrations, advertising elements and animations, and site design.

And I, Ionuț, became Doctor in History, specialized in Archeology.

I am passionate about all kinds of games and I help materialize the creative ideas.

I deal with research for games and stories, adding the bonus of historical information.

I'm responsible of managing Socolossal and I assure the activity is performed in the best conditions, for the most pleasant shopping experience for you.

What We Want to Achieve in the Future

Our goals are:

- continuing to bring you original and educative toys and games

- inspiring everybody to love nature and take care of the environment

- creating more customizable products

- interpreting romanian stories and traditions for the modern child

- extending the product range to include different toys  (wooden, natural textiles)

- having special collaborations with romanian artists and crafters

- planning interesting events for children and the adults accompanying them
