When the Children Start Asking about Santa's Secret
"Mommy, is Santa Claus real?"
"Daddy, who's really leaving my presents under the tree?"
"How does Santa get to all the kids on the same night?"
Years before we became parents I found this letter, which I kept because I thought it would be a good answer when these questions would come up. Since then, the letter has made the Internet rounds several times and has become quite famous. You just have to read it to understand why. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find its source since 2012. Anyway, here is the original letter.
You can copy the idea and modify the letter as best suits your family. You can use it as a starting point, but the secret is to express yourself from the heart, just like its authors.
Santa's Secret
The secret of Santa Claus is that he exists! Santa Claus is truly the spirit of Christmas, he is magic, love, joy, hope and the desire to give. He lives in our hearts and is therefore immortal.
He teaches children how to believe in something they cannot see: as trust in themselves and others, as imagination and creativity, as the desire to build a better world.
When children learn Santa's secret at the right time, the joy of receiving turns into the joy of giving. And this is part of the magic of life!
Surely, when the time comes, we too will use a variation of this letter that feels appropriate for our little girl. And hopefully it will help her keep the magic of the Christmas spirit with her forever.
