Our Story... a Closer Look on How Socolossal Started

I am Malvina Socol and here's the story about how I created Socolossal.

Where it all Began - Find Out More About Socolossal

Right when we found out we were going to be parents we entered the research mode: getting info about pregnancy, birth, raising and educating our child.

But our favorite part was beginning the search for toys. We were surprised to find that the games and toys we wished for our little girl (creative, educative, esthetic, made from natural materials) were not as easy to find as we thought.

So I decided to make the games with which we'd like our little one to grow - unique, imaginative novelties that are also eco-friendly.

I realized other parents must be in the same search too. And I created Socolossal - the new site with remarkable toys and games, that are made in Romania, and are eco-friendly. I chose to begin our adventure with digital (printable) products for many different reasons, but first of all because they are instantly accessible to many people around the world.

The name of „Socolossal” is a word play between our family name „Socol” and „colossal”, combining them in „so colossal”! Meaning the way we hope our games will inspire children to grow up.

The Sun and Moon symbols merged in the logo represent joy, the light of inspiration, opposite forces working together, completing each other.

Who I Really Am

I studied Graphics at the Fine Arts Highschool „Romulus Ladea” , and then at The University of Art and Design from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. I started working as a children book illustrator ever since high-school, in 2007. I am also passionate about other areas tangent to the artistic sphere: working with paper in a multitude of ways, calligraphy, and floral arrangements. I always knew that I want to create something to combine all my interests: illustration, design and paper objects.

And so I take care of all the creative parts for Socolossal, especially products with original illustrations, advertising elements and animations, and site design.

What I Want to Achieve in the Future

My future goals are:

- continuing to bring you original and educative toys and games

- inspiring everybody to love nature and take care of the environment

- creating more customizable products

- interpreting romanian stories and traditions for the modern child

- extending the product range to include different toys  (wooden, natural textiles)

- having special collaborations with romanian artists and crafters

- planning interesting events for children and the adults accompanying them
